Spanish Accent Codes:
There is nothing more tedious than going back through something you have written to add in your accent marks. Inevitably you will miss something, and it would be so much easier just to do it as you go! Here are two easy ways to type properly with Spanish accent marks.
Option 1: In Microsoft Word only, while holding down the "Ctrl" key, press the ' apostrophe key and then the vowel you would like to put the accent on. Then let go of the Ctrl key. {ie: Ctrl ' e = é)
Option 2: These codes will work with all Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as facebook and other internet websites. You must use a numeric keypad - the numbers across the top of the keyboard will not work.
For all codes hold down the "Alt" key and the press the following numbers...

á - 0225
é - 0233 í - 0237 ó - 0243 ú - 0250 ñ -0241 |
Á - 0193
É - 0201 Í - 0205 Ó - 0211 Ú - 0218 Ñ - 0209 |
¡ - 0161
¿ - 0191 |
The bad news: If you are using a laptop that does not have a side number keypad you can not use the "Alt" codes. I recommend going to Insert --> Symbol --> and then finding the letters you need. If you copy all á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ to the top of your document, you can then just copy and paste them in as needed. This is a pain, yes, but better than going back through at the end trying to remember where you need to add accents!
The advanced option: On Windows: Start --> Control Panel --> Change keyboard (under "clock, language, and region") --> Keyboards and Languages --> Change Keyboards --> Then choose a keyboard (I usually do Spanish (Mexico) Latin American version. Then you can press the ' key before any vowel and it will automatically add it. I will warn you, preview the keyboard first and note where the keys go because the ? - : ' " keys all move to new keys. This is complicated and I only recommend it if you do not have a side keypad or if you are going to be doing a lot of typing in Spanish - then it will be worth learning the new keyboard. Your main letters (qwerty) stay the same, but your symbols change!
